Dmitry Vlasov — director, actor, theatre educator, and Artistic Director of BHAT.
Dmitry Vlasov’s professional journey was connected with the stage long before he entered the world of theatre. In his youth, he performed as a rock musician, and in 2013 he began working as a concert organizer at a cultural center. This experience became his first professional introduction to organizing stage productions, engaging directly with audiences, and creating live performance events.
From 2015 to 2021, Dmitry studied at the Moscow State Institute of Culture, majoring in Directing Theatrical Performances and Events, and graduated with honors. At the same time, he worked as an actor at the Samara Art Theatre, and beginning in 2017, he also pursued directing work at Viva Park.
In 2019, Dmitry became the head of the children’s theatre *Under the Pillow*, where he worked as both artistic leader and director. In 2020, he continued his directing work at the *Ya-My* Theatre. During this period, theatre education and the practical application of the Stanislavski System in his work with both children and adults became one of the central areas of his professional practice.
After moving to the United States in 2022, Dmitry continued working within the Russian-speaking theatre community. He collaborated with the *Zerkalo* Musical Theatre in Virginia and the *Teremok* Theatre in Maryland as an acting and stage movement instructor, as well as an assistant director. Theatre projects involving Dmitry were presented at venues in Maryland, New York, and Boston.
His teaching practice led to the creation of the educational project *Stanislavski for the Lazy* and to his work on *The School Theatre Educator’s Handbook*. In 2025, Dmitry’s students received several awards at the *Constellation* Festival for ensemble and individual acting performances, solo performances, and artistic recitation.
Since the spring of 2026, Dmitry has collaborated with BHAT, contributing to the theatre’s creative and production work. Today, as Artistic Director of BHAT, he focuses on developing the theatre’s artistic direction, strengthening its acting ensemble, and creating new productions, combining his directing practice with many years of experience in theatre education.
At the same time, Dmitry continues his directing and teaching work in Maryland, develops his own project, *Theatre Without Brakes*, and is gradually expanding his work into the English-language theatre community.
His journey began on the rock stage and continued through concert production, acting, directing, and theatre education. Cities, countries, and languages have changed along the way, but one thing has remained constant — a living human presence on stage and a genuine conversation with the audience.
